NoBARC Does Field Day & BBQ
At Larry's House
Your humble reporter was delayed and joined this party in progress. Upon arriving the noises from the scene were somewhat puzzling - but relief was forthcoming. What was initially thought to be a bad case of QRM turned out to be a duck under my truck being pursued by the event mascot.
The array of antennas on site were encouraging. But upon entering the shack I found a lone operator accompanied by a dutiful logger. Both were far too willing to surrender their positions. I think the smell of barbequed ribs had already done their dirty work and had everyone eager to investigate.
Taking my seat I found the airwaves already alive with a cacophony of tones and chatter. Field Day was off and running. One need hardly turn the dial to find a strong signal. And with the well equipped shack and attentive logger (computer aided, of course) the contacts started piling up.
The action was the same all over the country. Contact, log, contact log. While we were not a hard-core, contest crazed group, we did our fair share and enjoyed the event.
The crowning glory came with the call "The ribs are ready". There was the real action. While I'm not exactly sure of the ingredients (or legality) of the sauce, the barbeque was a work of art. Larry, I salute you!
While other duties called me away far too soon, there are tales to be told by others. Those who could not attend were missed and will have to find the details elsewhere.
