NoBARC Field Day - 2002

NoBARC Field Day 2002 was a fun time for all who participated. We held it at Larry's house (KD6VUM) and operated with our club callsign N0BRC. Unlike some clubs, we weren't going after it for the contesting but rather for the social and fun aspects. In spite of that, we did manage to pull off a 4 transmitter operation with computer logging. We also had a great BBQ with pork ribs and hamburgers.

We made 510 SSB contacts and another 4 on 2m FM for a total of 514 contacts. The breakdown is as follows:

BANDCONTACTS
160 M18
80 M37
40 M216
20 M141
15 M81
10 M17
2 M (FM)4

The bands that were hoppin' were 40 and 20 meters. We used multiband dipoles and a dipole cut for 160 with a tuner to cover other bands.

We managed to work almost all 50 states. We were having so much fun that when we contacted our San Francisco Section Manager, Len Gwinn and he offered to give us a message to copy, we politely said "No thank you." He must have been taken quite aback at this as he asked us again about copying his message. "No thank you," we replied. "Well, OK..." Len said. We just didn't feel like going to that much work to write a message down. Callsigns and signal reports take a lot less time to copy.

Here are some photos from NoBARC Field Day 2002:

Dave KD6KWM and his handy-dandy trailer tower. We used this to support the 160m dipole.

Another shot of Dave's trailer.
